Mr. Gary Born has been one of the world’s leading international arbitration practitioners for the past 20 years. He is currently the chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group at WilmerHale LLP.
Mr. Born has participated in more than 600 international arbitrations, including four of the largest ICC arbitrations and several of the most significant ad hoc arbitrations in recent history. He has particular experience in joint venture, investor-state, M&A, investment banking and other financial services, project finance, energy, oil and gas, intellectual property and insurance disputes. Mr. Born also sits as arbitrator (presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator). He has served as arbitrator in more than 175 institutional and ad hoc arbitrations.
Mr. Born has published a number of leading works on international arbitration, international litigation and other forms of dispute resolution. He is the author of International Commercial Arbitration (Kluwer 2d ed. 2014), the leading treatise in the field, which has received the American Society of International Law’s Certificate of Merit for High Technical Craftsmanship and OGEMID’s Book of the Year award for 2009.
Steven Finizio is a Partner in the International Arbitration Practice at WilmerHale LLP. He is recognized as one of the leading international arbitration lawyers in London in the Chambers UK Guide. Mr. Finizio’s practice includes international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, general commercial litigation, and internal investigations, focusing on complex commercial and regulatory issues. Mr. Finizio also serves as an arbitrator.
Mr. Finizio has particular experience with shareholder, oil and gas, telecommunications, financial services, joint venture and M&A issues. He teaches International Commercial Arbitration as an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University Law School in London and is on the faculty at the Cologne Academy of Arbitration and for the Africa International Legal Awareness (AILA) annual International Treaty Law and Arbitration Programme. He speaks regularly on international arbitration at conferences and seminars.
Mr. Finizio is co-author (with Duncan Speller) of A Practical Guide to International Commercial Arbitration: Assessment, Planning and Strategy (Sweet & Maxwell 2010, second edition forthcoming), as well as co-author of International Commercial Arbitration in The Law of Transnational Business Transactions and Contributing Editor to the International Comparative Legal Guide to International Arbitration (Global Legal Group).
Mr. Ajar Rab is a Partner at Rab & Rab Associates LLP, Dehradun and specializes in transactions, merges and acquisitions, commercial litigation and international arbitration. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in international commercial arbitration under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefan Kröll from Bucerius.
He has previously worked at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas at New Delhi, the Law Commission of India, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, UPCL etc. and is a Policy Consultant for Lexidale, an international policy consulting firm. He is a non-resident expert at Vidhi, Centre for Legal Policy, and an associate with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London.
He has published several articles on arbitration in India and is also the author of a book on the Real Estate Act (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 which is under print. Mr. Rab is visiting faculty at National Law School of India University, Bangalore, and has previously judged several moot court competitions including Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, Manfred Lachs Asia Pacific Regional Rounds, the William C. Vis International Commercial Moot, and NLSTIAM.
Mr. Jonathan Lim is a Senior Associate at WilmerHale LLP. Mr. Lim focuses his practice on international arbitration matters and complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. He has experience with representation of clients in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations (including under the HKIAC, ICC, LCIA, SIAC and UNCITRAL Rules) cited in various jurisdictions, including both common law and civil law jurisdictions in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Mr. Lim has advised governments in Africa and Asia on public international law issues (including state and international organization immunities, international trade law and law of the sea) and international arbitration law reform.
In addition to his practice as counsel, Mr. Lim has a developing practice as arbitrator and has received SIAC and DIS appointments as sole and party-appointed arbitrator in proceedings seated in Europe and Asia. Mr. Lim is also a Visiting Senior Fellow at the National University of Singapore, where he teaches a course on commercial and investment arbitration each year. He publishes and speaks regularly on international arbitration and financial regulation. He has also lectured on international arbitration and financial regulation at the Singapore Management University and the London School of Economics.
